What they say about the ILEX route
"I read legal studies at university followed by a
Masters in Intellectual Property Law. During my studies, I was
aware that my university offered the ILEX qualification and given
how many people were graduating from law degrees and the LPC, I
knew that competition to secure a training contract would be tough.
I wasn’t prepared to take on the additional debt needed to complete
the LPC so I investigated the qualification further. The ILEX route
appealed as a recognised qualification that would allow me to work
and earn money while learning and developing my legal
skills.
“I feel much more confident in myself in advice giving to
clients. I also feel more on a par with my colleagues and am
excited about the prospects ahead for me now I have my ILEX
qualification, as it means that I will not have to re-qualify as a
solicitor to have my own practice.
After seven years’ practical experience I
am positive that the route I chose in order to practice law was
correct. If you are considering a life in the law, I would
definitely recommend considering the ILEX route."
Stuart Southall,
Legal Executive/Trademark Attorney, FBC Manby Bowdler
LLP
“One of the best kept secrets of the legal
profession is that a few solicitors would have started their
careers as junior assistants, or legal secretaries, going on to
take the ILEX exam or the LPC. These people often have great
hands-on experience in terms of legal procedural know-how as they
will have worked alongside qualified solicitors or partners for
many years.”
Fiona, MA in law and holder of an LPC
“Since commencing the ILEX programme I
have thrived in my career and have a far better knowledge of the
law in many respects. I would recommend the ILEX programme to
anyone, in particular to those who are in employment as it is
manageable to work and to study.”
Susan Samuel, Legal Executive/Court Advocate, Cwm Taf
NHS Trust
“There is another model in the law that works excellently,
and it’s right under our noses. It’s the ILEX (Institute of Legal
Executives) scheme. You can work your way up to becoming a legal
executive and solicitor, which suits plenty of people...”
Catrin Griffiths, The Lawyer
“Becoming a Fellow has transformed my life
and career. I am now a qualified lawyer and gain far wider
recognition within my company, the profession and the courts. The
opportunities available to Legal Executive lawyers now – to become
Judges and Partners - are tremendous.”
Gary Claeys, Legal Executive,
Silverbeck Rymer Solicitors
