Outcome 1: explain the requirements for a valid marriage

The candidate will be able to:

• identify the formalities of a valid marriage  
• explain the requirement for capacity in relation to a valid marriage eg age, prohibited degrees (as per Marriage Act 1949) parties already married, not respective male/female parties or marriage is a polygamous one (as per Matrimonial Causes Act 1973)
• describe the factors relating to void and voidable marriages 
• describe the effect of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 in outline only.
