The candidate will be able to:

  • explain the roles and powers of the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from pre-arrest to trial
  • describe the structure of the criminal courts in England and Wales including the appeals route
  • explain the role of key personnel in the criminal courts and their powers
  • explain modes of trial ie summary, triable-either-way and indictable offences.
