Principles of Liability
Outcome 1: explain the principles
of liability in relation to criminal law
The candidate will be able to:
- identify the key elements of actus reus
ie omission, state of affairs, causation
- explain the meaning of mens rea and
identify the different levels, ie direct intention, indirect
intention, recklessness
- explain the meaning and rationale of
strict liability offences and apply in specified scenarios
- identify and apply concepts to a range
of fatal and non-fatal offences against the person ie murder,
manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual
bodily harm, wounding, assault and battery.
