Outcome 2: describe the main sources of English law

The candidate will be able to:

• identify the stages in statute creation and explain the concept of parliamentary supremacy
• identify the main rules of statutory interpretation ie literal rule, golden rule, mischief rule
• explain the role of delegated legislation
• explain the system of judicial precedent
• describe the effect of European law on the legal system ie obligation of the courts to give precedence to European law
• describe the purpose of s3 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
