Frequently Asked Questions - Pre-My ILEX Registration

What are the benefits of registering for "My ILEX"?

Certain ILEX Online services (services and content) may only be available to registered members .  Online access to Legal Executive Journal content (full articles) requires members to register and login with My ILEX.  The My ILEX service allows you to check or update important Personal and Contact information and to manage your membership subscription.  Over time new services will be rolled out, enhancing the support and services provided to members.

Do new members who applied using the ILEX "Online Membership Application" service need to register with MyILEX?

Members who have applied for membership using the new (Sept 2010) Online Membership Application service are auto-registered with MyILEX.   Once the application is complete and given approval you should receive an email confirming your membership status and MyILEX password. The ability to re-register for MyILEX is available to all members at any time.  Members who could not or decided not to use the new online service will have to register.

Why do I need to register with "My ILEX"?

ILEX members will have much more control of their own data, the information stored by ILEX, therefore members are required to “opt-in” to use the service.     The online registration process applies the same level and type of security to ILEX online services as applied to other service channels eg via the ILEX call centre.

When I use MyILEX is my personal information and data secure?

Secure Socket Layer ("SSL") technology

ILEX have implemented a range of security features including deploying Internet standard Secure Socket Layer ("SSL") technology from Verisign

On the ILEX site, any page where members personal or private information is displayed or requested, SSL encryption is used as indicated by the display of the padlock symbol... eg SSL Padlock

More information on SSL can be found here.

Using a "Public" computer?

If using a “public” computer (ie in a Library or at work) you are advised; Not to use the “Remember Me” Login feature;  Ensure you “logout” from the ILEX Web services; Clear the Internet browser cache and to close the browser once you have completed your My ILEX session.

Usernames and Passwords

The "Username" required to login to the MyILEX service is an Internet email address.  Email addresses are increasingly used for such purposes and should ensure that each member has a unique identifier.  The My ILEX services requires you to provide either a personal (home) or employment (work) Internet email address.   The decision and responsibility for specifying the email address to use remains with you the member (and includes but is not limited to the correct spelling of the address and compliance with any employment policy on use of work email).

In relation to the password, although this is initially determined by the service, you are advised; To keep your password safe and not to divluge or record electronically or otherwise, in such a manner as to reveal your password to others;  To change your password when you login to the service for the first time and/or after you have requested a password reminder;  Ensure your password is not obvious eg a noun, and to use a mix of alphabetic and numeric characters; Change your password on a regular basis.
