Membership Grades and Fees
ILEX offers the following membership
categories, which you can join according to your experience and
qualifications held. You can register to study with ILEX at
any time of the year and this has been made easier by a
new online membership
application service.
Membership Registration Grades and Fees 2011/2012
Note: There will be a one-off initial
registration fee of £35 which is payable in addition to
the below fees.
Student member – for
those wishing to enter the legal profession; those who have no
relevant legal qualification; or those with less than three years’
work experience of a predominantly legal nature. Annual
subscription fees of £50 are payable.
Affiliate member – for those with at
least one ILEX level 3 unit qualification, or who have completed a
relevant legal qualification at level 2, or gained at least three
years’ work of a predominantly legal nature. Annual subscription
fees of £110 are payable.
Associate member – for those who have
completed their ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and
Practice, or who are graduates with Qualifying Law Degrees.
Associate members will be entitled to use the designatory letters
A.Inst.L.Ex after their name, and be required to undertake 8 hours
of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Annual subscription
fees of £155 are payable.
Graduate member – for those who have
completed both their ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and
Practice and their ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law
and Practice (or the ILEX Graduate 'Fast-Track' Diploma), or
who are Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional
Training Course (BPTC) (formerly the Bar Vocational
Course BVC ) graduates. Graduate members will be entitled to use
the designatory letters G.Inst.L.Ex after their name, and be
required to undertake 12 hours of CPD per year. To register for the
first time the fee will be a total of £620 which includes the
registration, annual subscription and exemption fees, thereafter
the annual subscription fees of £185 are payable.
Graduate members who wish to go on to
become a Fellow of ILEX - a qualified legal executive lawyer
- will need to satisfy the requirements for qualifying
employment.
Fellows – when you have successfully
completed a period of qualifying employment, you will become a
Fellow of ILEX, a qualified lawyer and will be eligible to use the
term Legal Executive and use the designatory letters F.Inst.L.Ex.
You will be invited to attend the ILEX Graduation ceremony. Fellows
are required to undertake 16 hours of CPD. Annual subscription fees
of £275 (subject to confirmation) are payable.
To be admitted as a Fellow you need to
have:
- passed the ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and
Practice and the ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law
and Practice qualifications (or been exempted from them, or hold
equivalent qualifications);
- completed a minimum of five years’ employment experience in
legal work, including at least two consecutive years’ experience
which falls after completion of the ILEX Level 6 Professional
Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.
