Associate Prosecutors

 

Associate Prosecutors are CPS employees who have been designated by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to exercise some rights of audience and rights to conduct litigation.   These rights were granted under section 7A Prosecution of Offences Act 1985, however, the rights were subsequently required to be granted under the Legal Services Act 2007 with effect from May 2011.

 

A successful application was made to the Legal Services Board seeking litigation and advocacy rights, in accordance with the Legal Services Act 2007.  The application set out details of the selection procedures to be followed in selecting suitable candidates to undertake the Associate Prosecutor qualification. The application also set out details of the advocacy and litigation training scheme and assessments that trainee Associate Prosecutors would complete.  A copy of the application, supporting annexes and certification rules can be found by following the links below:
