Associate Prosecutors
Associate Prosecutors are CPS employees who
have been designated by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
to exercise some rights of audience and rights to conduct
litigation. These rights were granted under section 7A
Prosecution of Offences Act 1985, however, the
rights were subsequently required to be granted under the
Legal Services Act 2007 with effect from May 2011.
A successful application was made to the
Legal Services Board seeking litigation and advocacy rights, in
accordance with the Legal Services Act 2007. The application
set out details of the selection procedures to be followed in
selecting suitable candidates to undertake the Associate Prosecutor
qualification. The application also set out details of the advocacy
and litigation training scheme and assessments that trainee
Associate Prosecutors would complete. A copy of the
