From the Chief Executive

Here's to a great 2011 and an even better 2012.

Looking back at our achievements, 2011 has been a great year:

  • Gaining a Royal Charter,
  • More law firms coming to ILEX to deliver in-house training,
  • More Legal Executives than ever being nominated for and winning awards,
  • More Legal Executive partners
  • and once again meeting the internal governance standards demanded by the LSB.

But, of course we won’t be stopping there and 2012 promises to be another year of achievement for ILEX, Legal Executives and all our members.

To help you hit the ground running on 1 January, we have come up with our top ten New Year’s resolutions that are designed to ensure you get the most out of ILEX and as a student, member or Fellow you can make the most of your career.

So repeat: “I resolve to:

  2. Visit MyILEX and check that ILEX has my correct contact details - click here
  3. Complete my CPD record online by the deadline to retain my practising certificate - click here
  4. Enter for my exams correctly and in plenty of time - click here
  5. Set myself some groundwork for the upcoming DDJ (Magistrates) recruitment exercise – click here
  6. Not hide my light under a bushel - nominate myself or a colleague for an ILEX 2012 medal - click here
  7. Help others by offering some pro bono work in 2012 - click here
  8. With over 20 branches across England and Wales, join my local ILEX branch and meet new colleagues in the New Year – click here
  9. Consider mentoring student lawyers who are following in my footsteps
  10. Become an ILEX case study and encourage others to take the route - click here

As always ILEX will be here to help support all of you in your studies and at work.

Our first job for 2012 will be continuing to promote our Chartered status, ensuring the message reaches far and wide. More news of this will be announced at the ILEX website, in the pages of the Legal Executive Journal and on our social media channels as it happens.

At the same time we will be supporting our colleagues in IPS as they complete the work on extending rights to undertake reserved activities to Legal Executives, and gear up internally to regulating businesses, a whole new set of responsibilities for you and for ILEX.

For now though on behalf of everyone at ILEX, I wish all our members, in the UK and overseas, a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and a most prosperous and healthy New Year.
