The ILEX President
David McGrady is the current President of the Institute.
The ILEX Presidential office runs for 12 months from the time
of the inauguration in July.
About David
David McGrady became the 47th President of the
Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) on the 8th July
2010.
David is currently an ILEX Council Member for
Greater London, having grown up in Streatham not far from the
original ILEX head office. After leaving school, a career in law
looked appealing to him, but the three years in university less
so.
Instead David joined the Treasury Solicitor’s
Department, the largest provider of legal services across
government. During his 13-year career there he worked on ever more
complicated personal injury and industrial disease cases, and
assisted senior colleagues on high-profile litigation cases, such
as the Christmas Island radiation case and the ‘Spycatcher’
injunction proceedings.
During his time in the Treasury Solicitor’s
Department, he frequently instructed barristers from the Treasury
Panel, many of whom have since gone on to become Law Lords and
Judges in the High Court.
David left the Civil Service in 1990 to join
Gregsons (a law firm established in 1788) to focus on commercial
litigation practice, including insolvency and landlord and tenant
work.
David qualified as a Fellow of the Institute
in 1995 and became an ILEX Council member in 2003. He was Treasurer
of the ILEX South London Branch until it amalgamated in 2007.
David has been married for over 30 years and
has two grown up children, one of whom has Down’s Syndrome.
David will be representing ILEX at a number of functions
throughout his Presidential year. If you would like to
invite David or another ILEX representative to speak
at a conference or to attend an event, please contact the ILEX
