Co-opted Council
members
A co-opted member is a Fellow appointed to the Council to fulfil
needs identified by Council. Co-opted members have the same status,
rights and privileges as constituency members but may not serve as
President, Vice-President or Deputy Vice-President.
Co-opted members are appointed for an initial period of
two years, but may be renewed at the discretion of Council.
Notices of vacancies are printed in the Legal Executive
Journal.
There are currently four seats reserved for co-opted
members.
To be eligible for appointment, Fellows must have paid their
annual subscriptions and any other fees owed to the Institute.
Co-opted members may not represent, simultaneously, a Council
constituency.
A Committee of the Council, to be known as "The Nominations
Committee" will be formed and will consider applications for
appointment relating to co-opted members on behalf of the
Council.
The Nominations Committee will review a candidate for
co-option's CV, details of experience and other information on
behalf of Council in respect to appointments of co-opted members.
The Nominations Committee will then make recommendations for
appointment as a co-opted member to Council.
Applications
The Nominations Committee or Council may invite a Fellow to
apply to be appointed as a co-opted member of Council. Appointment
of a co-opted member is entirely at the discretion of Council.
However, any Fellow who wishes to be appointed as a co-opted member
of Council must submit to the Nominations Committee a letter of
application, a CV, details of their work experience and at least
one reference from a Fellow or other persons with knowledge of
their work or expertise.
