Prime Minister launches structural reform plan
The government have published a ‘structural reform plan’,
setting out their top 5 priorities for the restructuring of the
criminal justice system. Structural reform plans have been issued
for several government departments, outlining key milestones and
timescales within which they must deliver their individual
priorities, with the aim of making each department accountable to
the public to ensure their commitments are met.
In the plan the Ministry of Justice have committed
themselves to;
- The reform of sentencing and
penalties
- Revolutionising rehabilitation
- The reform of courts and legal
aid
- The reform of the prison estate
- Reversing the erosion of civil liberties
The Prime Minister visited the Ministry of Justice to mark the
launch of their structural reform plan and highlight its importance
to the coalition government’s programme. He asked the public to
hold the department to account in meeting its priorities, inviting
them to measure the government’s progress against the set
milestones.
